Home Assistant

All day I was working on the integration of a z-wave motion detector and Home Assistant. I finally found in various forums that there were some issues and I had to manually change some configuration files. I eventually got it to work but then when I tried to do some automation, it was just too hard. I am pretty sure I can get what I want done, but it shouldn’t be this hard. With Home Assistant, it seems that I can do whatever I want to do but for me, the learning cure is too large. But that leads me back to if not Home Assistant, then what. Do I go back to Indigo (which much of my system is still in) or HomeSeer.

HomeSeer (and Home Assistant) worked very well with Alexa. Indigo integration with Alexa wasn’t great (it wasn’t horrible but HomeSeer and Home Assistant were much better). The mobile application for Indigo was great, I don’t like the interface on HomeSeer (I was just getting started with Home Assistant and was getting a handle on the Lovelace interface). I looked into the SmartThings hub and I need to do more research. I live in a area with limited Internet access and during bad weather, the internet can be out for weeks at a time so cloud based  automation is not useful.

I think I will leave things alone for a few days and then try again.
