The Factory: Perplexity AI
Hey, it’s Larry. This time we are going to discuss the fun that went into making what was labeled “Beginner’s Guide to Perplexity”.
You might be wondering why there wasn’t a behind the scenes for the last couple of videos and that is because a lot has been going on. First, let me state, the feeling of disappointment when your videos go live and you only get a view or two is real. This post has been written about twenty-five days after my first video went live and I have been trying to analyze what am I doing right and what am I doing wrong. At this point in time, I am not sure. My first video seemed to do OK but then there was a drop-off. I decided that maybe I needed to be more timely and when OpenAI released ChatGPT Agent, I made a video in about eight hours so that I could try to capture the Tech news cycle but that didn’t work. That is currently the least viewed video.
After watching a lot of videos, apparently this initial low phase is normal and you have to keep on posting, no matter what. One video even said that most Youtubers don’t even make it to their tenth video before giving up. That was alarming. Over the last few days, my counts started going up and that gave me hope. I am currently editing the Perplexity video and as I have been doing the edits, I have been making massive cuts and changes to the script. This particular script I wrote different scenes on different days and when I saw the whole script, I finally saw it didn’t work. For me, I need to write all my scripts in one or two days for the entire month. Perplexity was a hard script for me to write, so I kept pushing it off and doing a little at a time. I am starting to understand why some movies don’t work. Unless you have an idea from beginning to end, no amount of edits or rewrites is going to fix the script.
The good news is, I already started the outline process for the next five scripts and I know for the next few days, I need to write them all together. It not only helps each script flow better but it also helps when one script follows into the next script and they all work to tell an overall story. I don’t know how TV writers can write for a whole season. It is hard to keep building a story and making each one interesting and unique.
For everybody that wants to create a Youtube channel, let me tell you, from my experience, it is hard. You start off with unbelievable energy and passion and then reality sinks in when the numbers don’t start pouring in. Think about why you started the channel. What do you want to get out of the channel and more importantly, what do you want the audience to get out of your channel. I am still finding my voice. I am still figuring out how to get my message out but I will figure it out. For me, having technical knowledge isn’t enough. I am currently in the phase where I need patience and perseverance. Over the last few weeks, I have had lots of technical challenges as well because using bleeding edge technology can show you how unstable your tools are as they introduce new features. In the end, everything will settle down. In the meantime, I am looking forward to the next few days because I love writing episodes and hopefully it will also stop me from looking at the analytics of my videos.
And thank you all for being part of my journey as my journey continues!
