The Factory: AI Projects and Gems

ProjectsAndGems

Hi, it’s Larry. Today we are back for another installment of our behinds the scenes look at making the Youtube video, “The Secret to Never Explaining to AI Again” or its non-Youtube name, “AI Projects and Gems”. This one was originally written about a month ago but then was extensively rewritten because the more I used Projects and Gems, the more annoyed I was getting. A few episodes back, I had mentioned in a video that I was switching from ChatGPT to Gemini for my project work because ChatGPT was quite behaving. In addition, ChatGPT was getting a very weird personality and constantly agreeing with me. Today I am switching back. Over the weekend, Gemini started losing its mind. Literally. It kept giving me odd answers, forgetting what we had discussed a few minutes ago and then telling me it had a fault and I needed to do a reset. I started a new dialogue and it would happen all over again. And Gemini kept telling me it was sorry. It was driving me crazy. The final straw was when I asked it about some Google tools and it had no idea what they were! When I told it what they were and what they did, it apologized again. I guess Google must have upgraded Gemini over the weekend because I was having problems with it all weekend and it just kept getting worse and worse, to the point where I could rely on anything it told me. I had a similar problem with the mobile version of ChatGPT when ChatGPT 5 came out, where I would ask it a question and it would confidently give me the wrong answer. Lately, all the tools seem to be a little suspect and I constantly have to check on them.
Tonight I actually had a big problem where my remote for my living room, which controls all the devices in the living room, died and unfortunately they don’t make that remote any more. In the video about ChatGPT, I talked about how ChatGPT knows my whole network and helped me fix my network storage. Well, ChatGPT also knows my home automation system and was able to tell me how I could replace my remote using my home automation system so I could just talk to my media in the living room. The ChatGPT project that I had set up, knew exactly what to do which was awesome. So not only did it fix my network storage in the past, today it reconfigured my home automation system to replace a remote. See, I really do use Projects and AI.
This morning, AI had massive issues. AI usually gives me my chapter marks for when I upload my Youtube videos. For some reason, it kept making up what the video was and making up chapter marks! The chapter marks made no sense because they didn’t match the time or topic of the video. I uploaded the close caption and script file multiple times and it was just making stuff up. It was a very interesting morning.
Up until last week, I was writing my scripts in Microsoft Word and Google Docs. The problem I was having was when I tried to make a video of my scripts, it was hard to figure out what images should go with each scene. For those of you that know me, sometimes I go down a self made rabbit hole, and last week was no exception. I started to ask, how do screenwriters write their scripts? Where do they put in their visions, how do they figure out how many minutes their script will turn into, how do they figure out a budget and production schedule. I ended up trying to understand the life of a script, from the moment you have an idea, to when the script turns into a video and is finally aired. Once I understood at a high level, a lot of that flow and all the players involved, I started to see how I could improve a lot of my process. AI and I did have a few arguments because it said that I was one person and not a studio but I didn’t care. I wanted to understand the process because it turned out, many of those steps were needed. I ended up switching my writing tool to Final Draft because then I could put all my ideas into the script. For example, I could figure out while I was writing, what should the background look like, what images are on the screen, is a scene too long. I could even figure out if some of my ideas for the videos that are shown are too expensive or too difficult because generating videos in AI is not easy. If I thought about not only about the script but what would be seen on the screen at the same time, my process would be easier. I’ll let you know in a couple of weeks whether the new process helped, but I was able to do a couple of scripts very quickly so far.
Last week I also used Gemini to do some coding and I was extremely annoyed with the code it was generating. It constantly gave me code with absolutely no error checking. I looked at what it had generated and even before I ran it, I said no. There was no error handling, and there wasn’t even checks to see if it got valid data. It also did a lot of hard-coding. As far as I was concerned, it wasn’t even good enough to be a beginner programmer. I was extremely disappointed and I don’t know how people are doing all of this Vibe Coding. I don’t think we are there yet. I guess if you are not a developer, you wouldn’t know the code was bad.
This week has been fairly tough because I am about to go on vacation, so I knew I needed to do three videos in the next few days. Next week’s video is actually a two part video that I started writing in April before my last cruise and I continued writing it during that cruise. The cruise was a once in a lifetime trip and for some reason I let AI plan it. Nobody could have predicted what happened and I am not being sarcastic. I hope you join me for that video.
I don’t expect another episode of the Factory for a few weeks since I will hopefully not be working on too many videos while I am away. So as they say in the song, “See You in September”.The Secret to Never Re-Explaining to AI Again! The Secret to Never Re-Explaining to AI Again!
